2023 STORYFEST NEWS & UPDATES
June 5, 2023
Literary agent Amy Collins knows the publishing world.
As a book buyer and sales director for a large publisher, she’s sold books to Barnes & Noble, Target, Costco, Airport Stores, Books-A-Million and Walmart.
In 2006, she started New Shelves Books, one of the largest book sales and marketing companies in the U.S.
As an agent with Talcott Notch Literary Services, she focuses on nonfiction, historical fiction, fantasy and sci-fi. When she’s not scouting new talent, she and other Talcott agents teach a writing boot camp course offered each year by Writers Digest.
“I love working with books that educate and inform as well as working with authors who have a unique voice,” Collins says. “My commitment to my clients is to not only help them get good deals but to work with them on their marketing efforts, platform building and sales activities.”
Collins has taught and spoken at many of the publishing industry’s top festivals and conferences, including Publisher’s Weekly’s BookCon, Author U, Dallas Book Con, NY PitchFest, St. Louis Writer’s Conference and Writers Digest’s annual and novel conferences.
She’ll read query letters during Saturday’s Queryfest and comment on work submitted by conference-goers at Sunday’s Slushfest.
Want more? On Friday afternoon, she’ll teach a master class on publishing. The $75 course is limited to 20 people.
You also cqn pitch your book to Collins during a private 15-minute session. The $75 session is limited to 12 people.
She’s one of four agents and editors who will appear at Storyfest, SCWA’s annual writing conference in downtown Columbia. The others are Renee C. Fountain, president of Gandolfo Helin & Fountain Literary Management; Andrew Geyer, the author and fiction editor at Concho River Review; and Chad Rhoad, long-time editor at the Charleston-based Arcadia Press.
Don’t miss a chance to hear Collins or get her feedback on your writing.
